Noritz serial numbers encode the manufacture date in the first characters. Useful when you bought a house and need to know if the unit is 3 or 13 years into its 12-year warranty.
Where to find the serial number
- Data plate on the side of the unit
- Installation paperwork if available
- Original packaging sticker for new installs
Decoding format
Noritz serials are typically 10-13 characters. The standard format:
- First 2 digits = year of manufacture (16 = 2016, 22 = 2022). Note: cycle is 10 years; context (model launch date, install paperwork) disambiguates
- Next 2 digits = month (01-12)
- Remaining digits = factory sequence number
Example: 2103012345 = March, unit #012345 off the line
If the format is unclear
Call 1-877-986-6748 with the serial number. Noritz support can lookup the exact manufacture date in seconds.

Warranty implications
Warranty runs from install date if registered; from manufacture date if not. Decoding manufacture date tells you the latest possible warranty start. See warranty hub.
Bottom line
Decode the first 4 digits of the serial. Cross-check against the model's production years. Call Noritz if format is unclear — they're responsive on age-lookup calls.
