"Reset the unit" is the first instruction Noritz support gives for most issues. Three reset levels.
Level 1: error code reset
For any displayed error code, press the On/Off button on the controller. The unit attempts to restart and clear the fault. Transient faults clear; persistent faults re-throw.
Level 2: power cycle
- Turn off the unit at the controller
- Turn off the breaker or unplug
- Wait 30 seconds
- Restore power
- Turn the unit back on
Level 3: service menu / factory reset
Requires Noritz installer password. Don't attempt without installer guidance — improper service menu changes can void warranty or create dangerous configurations.
NCC cascade — individual unit reset
For NCC cascade installs:
- Isolate the target unit via the cascade controller
- Reset the individual unit via its own controller (Level 1 or Level 2)
- Bring the unit back into the cascade via the controller
- Verify cascade rotation works correctly
This avoids resetting the entire cascade for a single-unit fault.
Resets that don't fix things
Three resets in a row with immediate re-throw = real underlying fault. Stop cycling. Work through the diagnostic walkthrough on the specific error code page.
When to call instead
- Reset succeeds but unit immediately fails again under any draw
- Reset doesn't change the displayed code
- Controller display is blank or garbled
- Cascade controller reports persistent communication errors after Quick Connect cord verification

Bottom line
Start with Level 1. If the code re-throws inside 60 seconds, you have a real fault — go to the specific error code page. For cascade installs, isolate individual units before resetting the whole array.
