Ruud water heaters have several reset paths.
Electric tank — ECO reset
- Turn off breaker
- Remove upper access panel
- Locate red ECO button on upper thermostat
- Press firmly until click
- Replace panel; restore breaker
Gas tank — gas valve cycle
- Turn gas knob to "Off"
- Wait 5 minutes
- Turn to "Pilot" or "On"
- For standing pilot: depress pilot button per unit instructions
Power Vent — combined reset
- Unplug 120V power to fan
- Cycle gas valve (off → pilot → on)
- Plug power back in
Professional Hybrid
- Mode reset: press mode button on display
- ECO reset: red button on resistance backup thermostat
- Compressor lockout: breaker off 30 minutes, restore
- Factory reset: hold mode + temperature buttons 10 seconds
Ultra Series Tankless
- Press On/Off button on controller for 3 seconds
- If code persists, power-cycle at breaker for 30 seconds
When reset doesn\'t fix things
Three consecutive resets with immediate re-trip = real fault. Stop cycling and work through specific code\'s diagnostic walkthrough.
Bottom line
Electric: ECO red button. Gas tank: valve cycle. Power Vent: power + gas cycle. Hybrid: mode → ECO → breaker → factory. Tankless: On/Off button on controller.
