Cascade compact-elongated — critical seat compatibility
The Vortens Cascade uses an 18" compact-elongated bowl (NOT 18.5" full elongated). Generic "elongated SoftClose" seats from Walmart, Target, and most discount retailers are sized for 18.5" and will OVERHANG the Cascade bowl edge by 0.5", creating awkward visual gap and potential pinching.
For proper Cascade fit, use:
- Bemis 1200E ($28) — compact-elongated-specific, 18" sizing
- Kohler Brevia K-4639-0 ($60-$90) — universal compact-elongated fit
- Bemis 1502EC ($32-$38) — compact variant of 1500EC line
Onika skirted one-piece — premium seat consideration
The Onika (Vortens's modern one-piece skirted) benefits from premium seat aesthetic. Bemis 1500EC works functionally; for designer-matched aesthetic, consider Kohler Brevia or Cachet ($60-$90).
Install procedure (10 min)
- Remove existing seat: lift hinge caps, unscrew bolts (Phillips above + wrench below)
- Position new Bemis: align with bowl mounting holes (5-1/2" universal pattern)
- Insert bolts from above, hand-tighten nut below
- Final tighten 1/4 turn beyond finger-tight — DO NOT overtighten
- Test SoftClose hinge engagement
