Vortens toilet flapper replacement
All Vortens residential gravity-flush toilets (3464, 3414, Cascade, Lugano, Onika) use universal 3-inch flush valve architecture. Korky 2032BP at $7-$12 from any Home Depot fits directly. The Cancun dual-flush model uses Vortens-proprietary VC-1280 cartridge ($25-$45).
Pre-2014 tank-crack history — read before any service
If your Vortens 3464 or 3412 has a tank-lid date code between January 2008 and December 2013, your tank may be subject to the 2014 class-action tank-crack settlement. Before investing in flapper replacement, verify your tank isn't eligible for free Mansfield-Vitromex replacement under the settlement.
How to identify:
- Lift tank lid. Check underside for manufacture date stamp (YYMM format).
- If 0801-1312 AND model 3464 or 3412, contact Mansfield-Vitromex US customer service.
- Visually inspect for hairline cracks at tank-bowl mounting flange, side walls below water line, trip lever boss.
- Even without visible cracks, replacement may be available under settlement.
Current production (2014+, model 3464A and 3414A) uses corrected porcelain mix and has not exhibited cracking issues.

Symptoms requiring flapper replacement
- Continuous running water — flapper not sealing
- Phantom flushes (sporadic refill without flush activation)
- Audible slow leak between flushes
- Visible flapper degradation
- Incomplete flush — flapper closing too early
Replacement procedure (15 min)
- Shut off water at under-toilet shutoff valve.
- Flush to empty tank.
- Sponge out remaining water at flush valve.
- Disconnect chain from trip lever.
- Peel old flapper rubber tabs off flush valve ears.
- Scrub flush valve seat with vinegar to remove calcium deposits.
- Install Korky 2032BP: press rubber tabs onto flush valve ears.
- Reconnect chain. Adjust to 1/2" slack when flapper is seated.
- Restore water. Test 3-5 flushes.
Cancun dual-flush cartridge service
The Vortens Cancun dual-flush uses VC-1280 proprietary cartridge (Vortens-specific, NOT cross-compatible with Eljer 091-7115, Mansfield 155-CR, Glacier Bay, or Gerber GD-1280 dual-flush cartridges). Service interval: typically 12-15 years.
Replacement procedure (45 minutes):
- Remove tank lid, expose dual-flush button assembly
- Disconnect button rod from cartridge
- Unscrew cartridge mounting nuts (from inside tank)
- Lift old cartridge out
- Install new VC-1280 with proper rotational alignment (per Vortens install manual)
- Reconnect button rod
- Replace tank lid
- Test 3-5 dual-flush cycles (verify both full and half flush operate correctly)
