Vortens fill valve compatibility

Universal 2.5-inch shank fits all Vortens residential models:

  • 3464A elongated
  • 3414A round-front
  • Cascade compact-elongated
  • Lugano one-piece traditional
  • Onika one-piece skirted (limited service access — longer Fluidmaster install reach)
  • Cancun dual-flush (standard fill valve; the dual-flush cartridge is separate)

When to replace

  • Tank refills slowly (sediment-clogged diaphragm)
  • Refill incomplete (shut-off too low)
  • Continuous hissing/whistling
  • Phantom refill cycles
  • Visible leak from valve top

Replacement procedure (25 min)

  1. Shut off water at under-toilet shutoff valve
  2. Flush to empty tank
  3. Disconnect supply line from bottom of tank
  4. Sponge out remaining water
  5. From inside tank, unscrew fill valve lock nut from underneath
  6. Lift old valve out
  7. Install Fluidmaster 400A: insert through shank hole, hand-tighten lock nut
  8. Adjust valve height: top sits 1" above water line
  9. Connect supply line
  10. Position refill tube terminating inside overflow tube
  11. Restore water, adjust float for correct water level
  12. Test 3-5 flushes

Common service mistakes

  • Lock nut overtightened: cracks porcelain
  • Anti-siphon vent below water line: siphons dirty bowl water
  • Refill tube not in overflow: wastes water
  • Float adjustment wrong: water level off
  • Old supply line reused: replace at install
  • Onika limited access: use shorter wrenches

Service life

Typical Vortens fill valve service life: 8-12 years. Slightly shorter than industry average due to lower-cost Vitromex production. Hard-water Sun Belt areas (where Vortens dominantly distributes) shorten to 6-9 years.
