Pelican NaturSoft Installation Overview

The NaturSoft installs as an inline whole-home treatment system on the main water supply line entering the home. Installation time is typically 2–3 hours for a plumber or confident DIYer. No drain connection required (no regeneration backwash), no electrical connection required, and no programming — the system operates passively once installed.

Pre-Installation Requirements

  • Installation point: on main supply line, after pressure regulating valve (PRV) if present, before water heater
  • Upflow direction: inlet at bottom, outlet at top (NaturSoft uses upflow design to prevent channeling)
  • Minimum 3/4" supply line (NaturSoft ships with 1" MNPT connections; reducer fittings included)
  • Bypass valve: strongly recommended (Pelican sells a matched bypass valve; install before the NaturSoft tank)
  • No drain needed — zero waste water
  • No electrical connection needed — fully mechanical/passive

Installation Procedure

  1. Shut off main water at meter or main shutoff. Drain supply line pressure by opening the lowest faucet.
  2. Cut main supply line at chosen installation point. Pelican recommends at least 6" of straight pipe before and after the tank.
  3. Install bypass valve (optional but recommended for future service access).
  4. Connect inlet (marked on tank) to supply line and outlet to downstream supply. Use appropriate pipe adapters (3/4" or 1" NPT to your pipe type).
  5. Slowly restore water pressure. Check all connections for drips.
  6. Flush the system for 5 minutes at a nearby hose bib to flush NaturSoft media dust from the tank. Water may appear milky briefly — this is normal and safe.
  7. System is now operational. No programming required.

Post-Installation Notes

Pelican recommends annual visual inspection of the media tank for any discoloration or unusual deposits. The NaturSoft media does not require cleaning or replacement during its rated service life (500,000 or 1,000,000 gallons). After media life is reached, the tank requires replacement — Pelican offers a media refresh service for approximately 40% of the new system price.
