Kinetico Water Softeners: Non-Electric Twin-Tank Engineering

Kinetico (Newbury, Ohio, founded 1970) builds water softeners around a fundamentally different engineering philosophy than every other residential brand: its softeners operate without electricity, using the kinetic energy of flowing water to drive the valve mechanism and initiate regeneration. The result is a system that cannot malfunction due to a power outage, cannot be misconfigured by an incorrect controller setting, and regenerates on demand using soft water from the standby tank — producing softened water 24/7 without any interruption during regeneration.

Kinetico Twin-Tank System Overview

Every Kinetico softener uses a twin-tank design: two mineral tanks connected to a single brine tank. While one tank softens water, the other is regenerating. When the service tank reaches capacity, the system automatically switches to the standby tank — seamlessly, without any hard water bleeding through, and without the customer needing to program or intervene. Regeneration happens only when needed (demand-initiated) and uses soft water from the standby tank to regenerate the exhausted tank, producing cleaner resin than systems that regenerate with hard water.
