Rheem 1-year warranty
Rheem covers residential pressure booster systems under a 1-year limited parts and labor warranty. Contact Rheem at 1-800-432-8373 with the model number (RP17461 or equivalent), serial number, and installer information. Warranty service is provided through Rheem's licensed contractor network -- the homeowner cannot ship the pump directly. A Rheem service contractor will visit to diagnose and repair covered failures.
Pressure tank diaphragm
The pressure tank contains a bladder or diaphragm that separates the air charge from the water volume. When the diaphragm fails, water contacts the air charge and absorbs it -- the tank loses its cushioning function and the pump short-cycles (rapid on-off cycles with each small water draw). Signs of diaphragm failure: pump activates for every small draw (faucet runs 2 seconds, pump cycles on). Test: depress the Schrader valve on the tank with system pressurized -- if water comes out (not air), the diaphragm has failed. Replacement: drain the tank, remove from the system, replace the diaphragm or replace the tank. Rheem service parts available through HVAC distributors.
Electronic control board
Variable speed booster pumps include an electronic controller that manages motor speed based on pressure feedback. If the booster fails to respond to pressure demand (motor runs at full speed regardless of demand, or does not start), the control board may be faulty. Control board replacement is a warranty item within the first year -- contact Rheem for warranty service. After warranty, the control board is available as a service part through Rheem distributors (cost varies by model, typically $150-$300). Self-service is possible for experienced HVAC technicians but requires safe handling of line-voltage electronics.
Pressure switch and sensors
The pressure switch or transducer that signals the booster pump to start and stop is serviceable as a standalone part. If the pump does not respond to pressure drop (doesn't start when pressure falls below setpoint), the pressure switch may have failed or its sensing port may be clogged with mineral scale. Clean the sensing port with a thin wire and compressed air. If the switch remains unresponsive after cleaning, replace the switch -- available from Rheem distributors by model number.
