The Rheem RP17461 pressure booster addresses low household water pressure at its source: the service entrance. Rather than boosting pressure at individual fixtures, the RP17461 installs on the main water supply line where it enters the home (after the meter and before the water heater branch) and elevates pressure for the entire household to a maintained 60 PSI setpoint. The variable-speed ECM motor modulates between minimum and maximum speed to precisely match the instantaneous flow demand -- delivering full pressure at high-use times (morning showers) and dropping to near-idle when demand is low (middle of the night).
Performance specifications
Maximum flow capacity is 50 GPM -- more than sufficient for any residential household with simultaneous fixture use. The pressure setpoint is factory-set at 60 PSI but is field-adjustable to accommodate household preferences (typically 50 to 80 PSI). The RP17461 is compatible with tankless water heaters that require minimum inlet pressure above 40 PSI to activate -- a common problem in homes served by aging municipal distribution infrastructure where pressure drops below 35 PSI during peak morning demand.
Installation requirements
The RP17461 is designed for contractor installation. The pump installs on the main supply line with 1-inch NPT inlet and outlet fittings; union connections on both sides allow future pump removal without cutting the supply line. A dedicated 120V outlet within 10 feet of the installation point is required. Rheem recommends a licensed plumber for installation to maintain warranty coverage and ensure the pump is installed in the correct flow direction (the pump body is not bidirectional).
