Symptoms

Test with multimeter
- Off breaker; disconnect wires
- Continuity across terminals: 10-16 ohms healthy 4500W
- Open = burned out; short to ground = shorted
Replacement
- Off breaker
- Close cold supply; drain below element level
- Disconnect wires (note positions)
- Element wrench (1.5" hex)
- Install new with new gasket; finger-tight + quarter-turn
- Reconnect; purge air; restore breaker
