Bradford White uses two main error-code systems: the ICON System diagnostic LED on gas tank units, and the Infiniti GR Condensing Tankless two-digit display codes. This page covers both.
ICON System diagnostic LED codes
The ICON System on M2I-prefix gas tanks displays fault codes via a single LED that flashes in patterns. Count the flashes between pauses:
| Flash count | Meaning | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| 1 flash (steady) | Normal operation | — |
| 2 flashes | Pilot won't light | Clean intake filter (see our guide); then check thermocouple |
| 3 flashes | Thermocouple failure | Replace thermocouple ($25-$40 DIY) |
| 4 flashes | Gas valve over-temp | Manual reset on gas valve; if recurs, replace gas valve |
| 5 flashes | High limit shutdown | Tank over-temperature event — check thermostat setting and gas valve |
| 6 flashes | Gas valve internal fault | Replace gas valve (warranty-covered) |
| 7 flashes | Combustion air blocked | Clean intake filter — this is the most common ICON code |
| 8 flashes | Flammable vapor sensor tripped | FVIR safety — identify and remove flammable source (paint thinner, gasoline) |
Infiniti GR Condensing Tankless error codes
| Code | Meaning | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| 11 | No ignition | Verify gas supply |
| 12 | Flame failure | Clean intake filter; check vent termination |
| 14 | High-temp shutoff (heat exchanger scale) | Descale immediately; recurring = HX damage warranty claim |
| 15 | Thermistor fault | Replace temperature sensor |
| 71 | Gas solenoid fault | Warranty-covered; call BW |
| 90 | Combustion abnormal | Vent blockage or insufficient combustion air |
When to call a pro
DIY-friendly: codes 2/3/7 (intake filter + thermocouple), code 14 (descaling). Service tech: code 6 (gas valve), code 71 (gas solenoid).
Bottom line
For ICON System units, count the LED flashes carefully — 7 flashes is the most common and 60% of the time means intake filter. For full troubleshooting see our troubleshooting hub.
