Vitamin C filtration -- what it does better than KDF-55
KDF-55 converts free chlorine to chloride through a redox reaction but has limited effectiveness against combined chlorines (chloramines). Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) reacts with both free chlorine and chloramines through a direct chemical neutralization -- one molecule of ascorbic acid neutralizes one molecule of chlorine or chloramine. This makes Vitamin C the only filtration media that reliably removes chloramines in a showerhead filter.
