S-2252 fixed showerhead installation
Remove the existing showerhead from the shower arm. Clean the arm threads. Apply 3 wraps of Teflon tape clockwise around the arm threads. Thread the S-2252 clockwise onto the arm by hand until snug. Apply one quarter-turn with an adjustable wrench (use a cloth to protect the Polished Chrome or Brushed Nickel finish). Turn on the water and verify no drip at the arm connection. The S-2252's plunger spring will be audible as a subtle click-click during the first minute of use as the spring seats -- this is normal and will cease as the mechanism seats fully.
VS-3013 combination installation
The VS-3013 has two connections: the overhead showerhead connects to the shower arm via standard 1/2-inch NPT. The handheld hose connects from the diverter port on the showerhead body to the handheld unit. Apply Teflon tape to both connection points -- the arm connection and the diverter port where the hose threads on. Hand-tighten plus a quarter-turn at both connections. The diverter lever on the showerhead body controls water routing: lever up = overhead, lever down = handheld. Turn on the water and test both positions.
Adjusting flow rate
If flow is weaker than expected after installation, check for a flow restrictor disk in the inlet of the showerhead (a small plastic insert with a flow-limiting orifice). Speakman ships most models with restrictors for California compliance; remove the restrictor if your jurisdiction permits 2.5 GPM. The restrictor is accessible with needle-nose pliers through the inlet after removing the showerhead from the arm.
Water hammer note
In some plumbing systems with high supply pressure (above 80 PSI), the Speakman plunger mechanism can cause a brief hammering sound when the shower is turned off as the plunger valve closes. If this occurs, check your home's pressure regulator setting -- 60-70 PSI is the recommended range for residential plumbing. A pressure regulator adjustment resolves the issue; the showerhead does not need replacement.
