Best Aquasana Filtered Showerheads -- AQ-4100NSF vs AQ-4105 with Massaging Head

Aquasana AQ-4100NSF is the most independently certified filtered showerhead in the US market -- NSF 177 certified for chlorine reduction, two-stage KDF-55 and activated carbon filtration, and a 10,000-gallon filter life that outlasts most single-stage filtered showerheads.

Updated Aug 2026 · Aquasana Showerheads

Aquasana built its brand on independently certified water filtration -- the AQ-4100NSF's NSF 177 certification is the key differentiator from non-certified filtered showerheads that make unverified reduction claims.

AQ-4100NSF -- certified filtration standard

The Aquasana AQ-4100NSF is a two-stage filtered showerhead: Stage 1 uses copper-zinc alloy (KDF-55 equivalent) for redox chlorine reduction and heavy metal removal; Stage 2 uses coconut shell activated carbon for organic compound and chlorine taste/odor reduction. The combined two-stage design achieves 97% chlorine reduction under NSF 177 standard testing conditions. The "NSF" suffix in the model number signifies this certification -- it is the specific differentiator that justifies the AQ-4100NSF over non-certified alternatives. Filter life: 10,000 gallons (6-12 months typical). MSRP $55-$80. Replacement filter: AQ-4100NSF-R ($29-$35).

AQ-4105 -- filter plus massaging head

The Aquasana AQ-4105 is the AQ-4100 filtration system combined with a massaging showerhead with 7 spray settings. The filtration performance and NSF certification are identical to the AQ-4100NSF -- the difference is the showerhead head design. The AQ-4105 adds pulsating massage, wide-angle, and combination spray modes beyond the AQ-4100's standard full spray. At $70-$100 for the full set, the AQ-4105 is the correct choice for buyers who want both certified filtration and spray variety. The filter and showerhead components use the same replacement cartridge as the AQ-4100NSF-R.

AQ-4100NSF vs Culligan ISH-200 vs Brondell VivaSpring

Culligan ISH-200: KDF-55 single stage, no NSF 177 certification (as of recent label), $45-$60, 10,000 gal. Aquasana AQ-4100NSF: two-stage KDF-55 + carbon, NSF 177 certified, $55-$80, 10,000 gal. Brondell VivaSpring VS100: Vitamin C single stage, no KDF or carbon, $30-$50, 2-4 month cartridge (shorter interval). The NSF 177 certification and two-stage filtration make the AQ-4100NSF the most credentialed filtered showerhead under $100 for free-chlorine-treated water. For chloramine-treated water, add Brondell or Waterdrop WD-SHF-06A with Vitamin C stage.

Aquasana for chloramine-treated water

KDF-55 and activated carbon have limited effectiveness against chloramines. If your water is chloramine-treated (check your CCR), the AQ-4100NSF's two-stage filtration provides less benefit than its free-chlorine performance numbers suggest. For chloramine water, pair the AQ-4100NSF with a Vitamin C pre-filter (available as an in-line accessory) or switch to Brondell VivaSpring or Waterdrop WD-SHF-06A which include Vitamin C chemistry. Aquasana does not currently offer a built-in Vitamin C stage in the AQ-4100 line.
