Standard installation (FloWise, Delancey, Moments)
Remove the existing showerhead. Clean the shower arm threads. Apply 3 wraps of Teflon tape clockwise around the arm threads. Thread the American Standard showerhead clockwise by hand until the inlet washer contacts the arm face. Apply one quarter-turn with an adjustable wrench (cloth-protected). Turn on the water; check for drips. If the showerhead drips at the arm, apply an additional quarter-turn. Do not exceed one full wrench turn past hand-tight.
Spectra eTouch -- first-use setup
The Spectra eTouch cycles through four spray modes with each tap. After installation, turn on the water with the showerhead at full flow. Tap the face once -- the spray should advance to the next mode. Cycle through all four modes to verify the mechanism is operating correctly. If the eTouch does not respond to tapping: (1) Verify adequate water pressure (minimum 20 PSI -- the piezo mechanism requires water flow to activate). (2) Check that the flow restrictor has not been removed -- the eTouch mechanism is calibrated for the included flow rate. (3) Contact American Standard support if the mechanism does not operate correctly after flow verification.
Removing the flow restrictor -- FloWise
FloWise showerheads ship at 1.8 GPM with a pre-installed restrictor. If your state permits 2.5 GPM and you prefer higher flow: unscrew the showerhead from the arm, use needle-nose pliers to extract the pink or blue restrictor disk from the inlet, reinstall. Note that removing the restrictor voids the WaterSense certification (though not the product warranty). For California, Colorado, and other restricted states: do not remove the restrictor -- it is required by state code.
Adjustable shower arm compatibility
American Standard Moments rain head models require a shower arm that positions the head at least 6 inches from the wall at a height of 76+ inches. If the existing arm is too short or too low, replace with an S-curve shower arm extension ($15-$25 at hardware stores) before mounting the rain head. The Moments uses the same 1/2-inch NPT connection as all American Standard showerheads and is compatible with any arm that provides the required clearance.
