Waterdrop G-series installation differs from traditional RO in two key ways: there is no storage tank to mount, and the pump requires a 110V power connection. Otherwise the process is the same -- cold water tap, drain saddle, dedicated faucet, color-coded tubing. The slim form factor (about 15" x 4" x 18") means the G-series system takes roughly one-quarter the under-sink space of a traditional RO manifold-plus-tank combination.
Pre-installation requirements
- 110V outlet: The G3P800 and G2P600 pump requires power. Check for an outlet in or accessible to the under-sink cabinet. Common sources: existing garbage disposal outlet, dishwasher circuit, or a standard outlet on the cabinet's interior wall. If no outlet exists, contact a licensed electrician -- adding a GFCI outlet under the sink runs $150-$300 in most markets.
- Cold supply pressure: 15-75 PSI operating range (the pump compensates for low pressure). The G-series is one of the few RO systems that works reliably below 40 PSI without a separate booster -- the internal pump handles this natively.
- Under-sink clearance: 15" wide x 4" deep x 18" tall for the G-series unit. Dramatically less space than a traditional RO manifold + tank combination. Most cabinet configurations that couldn't fit a traditional RO can fit a G-series unit.
Step 1: Cold water supply tap
Waterdrop includes a 3/8"-to-1/4" T-fitting for tapping the cold supply line between the shutoff valve and the existing faucet supply line. Shut off the cold supply valve, disconnect the existing supply line from the valve, install the T-fitting on the valve output port, reconnect the supply line to one port, and connect the Waterdrop blue (feed) tubing to the second port using the included compression fitting. Push-in connection -- push firmly until the collar clicks, then pull gently to confirm seating.
Step 2: Drain connection
Install the included drain saddle clamp on the horizontal kitchen drain pipe above the P-trap. Drill a 1/4" hole on the top or upper side of the drain pipe (never the bottom -- prevents P-trap back-siphon). Tighten the clamp bolts evenly. Connect the yellow (drain) tubing from the Waterdrop unit's drain outlet port to the saddle using the compression fitting. The G-series units have an internal check valve on the drain line that prevents back-flow -- do not install an additional check valve, as the back-pressure from two check valves can interfere with drain line pressure sensing.
Step 3: Mount the G-series unit
The G3P800 and G2P600 can mount vertically to the cabinet wall (using the included wall-mount bracket) or stand on the cabinet floor. Wall mounting is preferred -- it keeps the unit off the floor where water spills can cause damage and makes the tubing routing cleaner. The wall-mount bracket screws into the cabinet side panel; the unit clips onto the bracket. Use the included mounting screws -- the bracket is rated for the unit's weight and the screws match the bracket's hole pattern.
Step 4: Power connection
Route the power cord from the unit to the 110V outlet. The G-series power cord is 5 feet -- typically sufficient for most under-sink configurations. Do not use an extension cord for permanent installation; if the cord is too short, have an electrician relocate the outlet or add a second outlet closer to the mounting position. The power adapter (included, 110V to 24V DC) connects between the wall outlet and the unit's power port. The pump is silent when the system is in steady-state; a brief low-level hum during draw is normal.
Step 5: Dedicated faucet installation
The Waterdrop G-series includes a brushed nickel or matte black dedicated faucet. Install in an existing extra sink hole or drill a new 1-3/8" hole. Connect the black (output) tubing from the G-series unit's output port to the faucet's lower port using the push-in fitting. Unlike traditional RO systems that have a separate auto-shutoff valve controlling flow to the faucet, the G-series uses the pump itself as the flow controller -- when you open the faucet, the pump senses the pressure drop and activates, producing water directly on demand.
Step 6: D6 countertop installation (separate procedure)
The D6 installs in 10 minutes. Remove the existing kitchen faucet aerator (unscrew counterclockwise -- most standard faucets have a standard thread). Thread the included diverter valve onto the faucet spout. Connect the D6's blue (feed) tubing to the diverter valve's filter port. Position the D6 on the counter, connect the output spout, and place the included waste container under the unit's drain port or attach the optional drain adapter to direct waste to the sink. Plug the D6 power adapter into a standard outlet. Open the diverter to the "filter" position and the D6 activates automatically when it senses flow.
Step 7: First flush
Open the dedicated faucet and run water for 3 minutes. The first 30-60 seconds may show low pressure as the pump primes and the system pressurizes. After priming, flow stabilizes. Run the full 3-minute flush to clear any manufacturing residue from internal tubing. Check the TDS display (G3P800) or use the included TDS meter -- output should be 5-15% of source water TDS. If output reads above 20% of source after the flush cycle, check that the RO membrane module is fully seated in its housing (push until the click is felt) and repeat the flush.
WiFi setup -- G3P800 only
Download the Waterdrop app (iOS or Android). Power the G3P800 and wait for the LED indicator to show solid blue. In the app, tap "Add device," select G3P800, and follow the in-app pairing sequence. The G3P800 uses 2.4GHz WiFi only -- if your router broadcasts 2.4GHz and 5GHz as a single SSID, you may need to separate them temporarily during pairing or use a phone connected to the 2.4GHz band. Once paired, the unit uploads TDS readings and filter-life data automatically after each draw.
