In-Line Water Heating: How Moen Heats Water Instantly

Traditional bidet seats store warm water in a reservoir tank, which means the supply of warm water is limited to the tank volume -- typically 0.5 to 1.0 liters. The Moen Bia uses an in-line heating element similar to a tankless water heater. Cold water flows through a ceramic heating chamber and reaches the target temperature before reaching the nozzle. This delivers uninterrupted warm water for extended wash cycles without the cold surprise of a depleted tank.

The tradeoff is energy draw: during active washing the Bia draws approximately 1,200 watts at full heat. Most 15-amp bathroom circuits handle this without issue, but dedicated circuits are recommended in older homes with shared circuit loads.

Dual-Nozzle Assembly and Spray Modes

The Bia seat houses a retractable dual-nozzle wand with separate posterior and feminine wash positions. When not in use, the nozzle retracts behind a guard gate. Before each wash cycle the nozzle performs a brief cold-water rinse of the nozzle tip itself. Spray width is adjusted by a slider on the side panel, which moves a diffuser collar around the nozzle tip to widen or narrow the stream. The oscillating mode activates a small motor that shifts the nozzle back and forth across a 2-centimeter range for a broader coverage area.

Heated Seat Technology and Energy Saver Mode

The Bia seat uses a carbon fiber heating element embedded in the seat shell. Five temperature levels range from approximately 95 degrees Fahrenheit to 108 degrees Fahrenheit. An energy saver mode uses occupancy patterns learned over time to pre-warm the seat before typical usage hours and drop to standby during low-use periods, reducing idle power consumption by up to 30 percent according to Moen testing data.

Side Panel Controls and Installation Interface

The Bia control panel attaches to the right side of the seat (non-reversible). Physical buttons provide tactile feedback without requiring a touchscreen or app. There is no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi integration in the current Bia lineup -- this is a deliberate design choice for simplicity and reliability. The panel covers wash, spray, oscillate, dryer, and seat heat functions with clearly labeled icons. Installation connects to the standard 7/8-inch toilet supply line via the included T-adapter and requires a standard 120V GFCI outlet within reach of the toilet.
