SpringWell CF Softener Parts and Salt Purchasing Guide
SpringWell CF softeners use a Clack WS1 control valve (not a Fleck valve), which has its own parts ecosystem. Clack valves are slightly less common than Fleck 5600SXT in plumbing supply houses but are fully supported by SpringWell customer service for parts ordering. The CF1 mineral tank uses 1.0 cubic foot of 8% cross-linked resin; the CF4 uses 2.5 cubic feet.

Best Salt Type for SpringWell CF Softeners
SpringWell recommends pellet salt (sodium chloride) for the CF series. Pellets dissolve uniformly, minimizing salt bridges. Morton Clean and Protect ($10–$12 per 40 lb bag) and Diamond Crystal Bright and Soft are the two most commonly recommended brands. For households with iron above 1 PPM, use Morton Rust Remover salt (contains resin cleaner in every pellet) or manually clean resin with Res-Care every 6 months. Potassium chloride (KCl) pellets are a sodium-free alternative at 2–3× the cost per bag.
