Navien Inline Scale Inhibitor for Tankless Water Heaters

Navien specifies scale inhibitor pre-treatment for NPE and NHB series condensing tankless water heaters when source water hardness exceeds 11 GPG, in accordance with Navien installation guidelines that protect heat exchanger warranty coverage. The Navien-compatible inline scale inhibitor cartridge uses pharmaceutical-grade polyphosphate beads to treat the incoming cold water supply at 2-5 PPM phosphate concentration, coating calcium and magnesium ions with a film that prevents crystallization on Navien secondary heat exchanger surfaces operating at 120-140 degrees F condensing temperatures. The cartridge housing (3/4-inch NPT inline) installs between the cold water shut-off valve and the Navien cold water inlet port. Cartridge life is 12-18 months at hardness levels below 20 GPG; above 20 GPG, quarterly inspection and replacement every 6-9 months is recommended. Navien dealers stock compatible cartridges as a standard service item for hard water installations.
