The GE GXSH40V is a 40,000-grain whole-house salt-based water softener engineered by GE Appliances for 3-5 person households with hardness up to 25 GPG. SmartSoft technology monitors daily water consumption patterns and adjusts regeneration timing to the household schedule, minimizing regeneration during peak usage hours. SmartRecharge demand-initiated regeneration uses a patented salt efficiency algorithm that saves up to 35% more salt than conventional timed softeners by calculating the exact brine concentration needed for the measured level of resin exhaustion. The 1.25 cubic foot resin bed delivers 12 GPM at service -- enough for simultaneous showers, dishwashers, and washing machine operation in a 4-bedroom home. Iron removal reaches 5 PPM clear water iron without a dedicated pre-filter. The GXSH40V installs using standard 1-inch NPT connections with the included bypass assembly.
