The GE GXSH30V is the compact entry in the GE SmartSoft water softener line, offering 30,000-grain capacity for 1-4 person households at a smaller physical footprint. Despite the lower capacity, the GXSH30V retains 5 PPM clear water iron removal -- the same as the larger GXSH40V -- making it unusually capable for a compact softener. SmartRecharge demand regeneration calculates the minimum salt dose needed to regenerate the resin bed at each cycle, reducing salt use compared to fixed-dose timed softeners. The 150-lb brine tank and 9-inch mineral tank diameter allow installation in tight utility closets or under-stair spaces where larger softeners do not fit.
