Takagi Maintenance

Takagi Water Heater Maintenance — Annual Checklist

Annual maintenance tasks for Takagi T-H3, T-D2, T-K, T-KJr, T-T.

Updated May 2026 · Takagi Water Heaters

Takagi tankless units need annual maintenance to stay inside warranty and at rated GPM output. Skipping descaling is the most common reason warranty claims are denied.

Annual checklist

  1. Flush the heat exchanger — annual in hard water, biennial in soft water
  2. Clean the inlet water filter
  3. Clean the air inlet filter
  4. Inspect vent termination
  5. Inspect condensate trap (condensing models)
  6. Verify gas pressure (every 2-3 years, by a plumber with manometer)
  7. Test pressure relief valve if installed inline
  8. For outdoor units in cold climates: verify freeze-protection circuit is working

T-T commercial cascade — quarterly maintenance

  1. Cascade controller firmware verification
  2. Per-unit firing hours review (verify wear leveling)
  3. Individual unit fault-log review
  4. Manifold inspection for leaks
  5. Quarterly descaling in heavy commercial duty

Warranty impact

Heavy scale at claim time = denied claim. Keep receipts and dated photos.

Bottom line

One Saturday a year keeps a Takagi inside warranty and at rated output for the full 15-year T-H3/T-D2 heat exchanger life.
