GE 50-Gallon Electric Water Heater (Legacy)
GE 50-Gallon Electric Water Heater (Legacy) Review
The GE 50-Gallon Electric Water Heater (Legacy) is a discontinued GE-branded water heater, manufactured by A.O. Smith under license. GE stopped selling water heaters in the US around 2018; the Legacy units remain in service in many residences installed 2010-2018.
Specs: 50 gallons stored, two 4500W heating elements (240V), UEF 0.92-0.93 depending on sub-model, 62-gallon FHR, 6 or 9-year tank warranty depending on sub-model. Glass-lined steel tank, magnesium anode rod. Same A.O. Smith engineering as the equivalent A.O. Smith ProMax or Conservationist Electric.
Service support: parts available through A.O. Smith's network with the GE model number used for identification. The brand is discontinued but the underlying A.O. Smith hardware support continues.
For replacement of existing GE units, the AO Smith Conservationist 50-gal Electric or Whirlpool 50-gal Electric (same A.O. Smith manufacturing) are direct replacements. About $499 at Lowe's, $1,000 installed.
Right buyer: homeowner replacing an existing GE water heater wanting brand-name continuity (not available — choose A.O. Smith Conservationist instead) or buyers encountering used GE inventory.
