Bradford White thermocouples are standard universal 24" thermocouples — same as Rheem, AO Smith, etc. Replacement is a 30-minute DIY at $25-$40.

Confirm thermocouple failure (after intake filter is clean)
- Press and hold pilot button while lighting
- Hold 30+ seconds after flame is steady
- Release — pilot extinguishes immediately or within 5 seconds
This sequence + clean intake filter = thermocouple is the issue in 95% of cases.
Replacement procedure
- Shut off gas supply, wait 5 minutes
- Open burner access door
- Disconnect thermocouple at gas valve (11/32" or 7/16" nut)
- Remove thermocouple bracket clip inside burner chamber
- Install new thermocouple, position tip in pilot flame
- Connect at gas valve — hand-tight + 1/4 turn (don't over-torque)
- Close access, restore gas, relight pilot
