Richmond Water Heater Installation

Install requirements for Richmond Essential, Encore, Premium, Power Vent, Hybrid, and Encore Tankless.

Richmond install requirements are identical to Rheem and Ruud for equivalent product types.

Essential / Encore / Premium atmospheric gas

  • Existing B-vent chimney with proper draft
  • Gas line: ½" up to 40k BTU / ¾" for 50k+ BTU
  • Combustion air per code
  • T&P discharge
  • Drain pan with overflow when above living space

Encore Power Vent

  • 120V outlet within 6 ft of unit
  • PVC sidewall venting (2" or 3")
  • Vent length per manual
  • Termination clearances per code

Premium Power Direct Vent

  • Two-pipe sealed combustion venting
  • 120V outlet for inducer fan
  • Vent up to 60 ft equivalent length

Essential / Encore electric

  • 240V dedicated 30A circuit
  • 10-gauge copper wire
  • T&P discharge
  • Drain pan when above living space

Encore Hybrid Heat Pump

  • 240V dedicated 30A circuit
  • 700+ cubic feet of unconditioned air space
  • Ambient 40°F+ for heat pump mode
  • Condensate drain — 4-8 gallons/day
  • Clearances: 7" front, 4" sides, 7" top

Encore Tankless

  • ¾" gas line back to meter for 199k BTU; ½" acceptable for RH130 up to 30 ft
  • 2" or 3" PVC venting
  • Condensate drain (1-2 gal/day)
  • Water softener if hardness over 11 gpg
  • Outdoor variant: no venting required

Permits

Required in most US jurisdictions.

Bottom line

Standard installs. Heat pump needs 700+ cu ft air space. Tankless needs ¾" gas line and proper venting.
