Rheem RPWHE2 Whole-House Water Filtration System
Rheem RPWHE2 Whole-House Water Filtration System Review
Rheem RPWHE2: Trusted Water Heater Brand in Whole-House Filtration
Rheem, best known for water heaters, extends its water quality product line to the RPWHE2 -- a 2-stage whole-house filtration system designed specifically to protect Rheem water heater longevity by removing sediment and chlorine before the water heater inlet. Sediment fouls water heater elements (electric) and burner surfaces (gas). Chlorine and chloramine accelerate corrosion of sacrificial anodes and copper heat exchanger tubing. Filtering the supply before the water heater extends service life measurably.
Standard Housing Compatibility
The RPWHE2 uses standard 10-inch Big Blue filter housings -- a 4.5-inch diameter format available from dozens of manufacturers. This means Rheem-brand replacement filters are not required; third-party 4.5 x 10-inch sediment and carbon filters from Pentek, DuPont, or Aquasana are direct replacements at varying price points. This non-proprietary housing design is a practical advantage over manufacturer-locked filter formats.
- Standard Big Blue housing -- non-proprietary filter replacements
- 15 GPM adequate for 3-4 bathroom homes
- Designed to protect Rheem water heater warranty
- Affordable entry price for whole-house system
- Standard carbon does not reduce chloramine
- 2-stage only -- no catalytic carbon for advanced treatment
- 15 GPM may limit flow in homes with high simultaneous demand
