PUR PLUS 11-Cup Pitcher Water Filter
PUR PLUS 11-Cup Pitcher Water Filter Review
PUR PLUS 11-Cup: MAXION Technology and NSF 401
The PUR PLUS CR-1100C pitcher uses PUR MAXION technology -- a combination of activated carbon and ion exchange resin in a cylindrical cartridge. MAXION is NSF-certified under three standards simultaneously: NSF 42 (chlorine taste/odor), NSF 53 (lead, mercury, chloroform), and NSF 401 (emerging contaminants including pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and industrial chemicals). NSF 401 certification is uncommon in pitcher filters -- most pitcher products carry only NSF 42.
100-Gallon Filter Life
PUR PLUS filters last 100 gallons -- approximately 2.5 months for a household using the pitcher as the primary drinking water source. The 40-gallon-per-filter Brita Standard requires more frequent replacement at comparable volume usage. PUR includes an electronic filter life indicator on the lid that shows green (good), yellow (replace soon), and red (replace now).
Slim Profile Design
The CR-1100C is designed specifically to fit most refrigerator door shelves -- the pitcher width is 5.25 inches, which clears standard door compartments that pitcher competitors with wider bases cannot access. Capacity is 11 cups (2.6 liters) -- slightly larger than the Brita 10-cup OB06. The pitcher lid opens at the top for easy filling without removing the filter.
