VEVOR in the distiller market: accessible stainless steel at low cost
VEVOR is a Chinese direct-to-consumer manufacturer that sells through Amazon and its own website. Their water distillers -- stainless steel countertop units in the 4L-6L range -- are the entry point for home distillation buyers who want genuine stainless construction without spending $150 or more. VEVOR prices range from $80 for the 4L unit to $120 for the 6L and around $200 for the 30L-per-day automatic desktop unit.
The VEVOR distiller is not the most refined product in this category. Megahome and WaterWise build more durable cooling coils and better-quality collection vessels. But VEVOR serves a specific and legitimate segment: the buyer who wants to test home distillation before committing to a premium unit, or who needs distilled water for non-critical applications like aquarium top-off, humidifier fill, or battery maintenance where pharmaceutical-grade purity is not required.
VEVOR 4L -- the standard recommendation
The VEVOR 4L countertop water distiller uses a 750W heating element in a stainless steel boiling pot with a fan-cooled stainless coil condenser. Output: approximately 1 liter per hour. A full 4L batch takes 4 hours and produces approximately 3.5-3.8 liters of distilled water (some water remains in the pot as concentrated residue and is discarded). The collection vessel is a BPA-free plastic jug that sits outside the unit. VEVOR includes one activated carbon post-filter sachet that drops into the collection vessel to catch any volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that distill over with the water vapor -- useful for municipal tap water that contains chlorinated VOCs.
At 750W the unit draws standard residential current (standard 120V outlet in the U.S.). Runtime is 4 hours per batch unattended -- the unit shuts off automatically when the boiling chamber runs low. For continuous-use scenarios (filling multiple bottles per day), the 6L unit is more efficient.
VEVOR 6L -- the volume upgrade
The VEVOR 6L shares the same 750W element and coil condenser as the 4L. The larger boiling chamber means 6L input, approximately 5.5L output per batch, over 5-6 hours of runtime. The cost premium over the 4L is modest -- approximately $35-40. For buyers who need more than 2-3 liters of distilled water daily, the 6L eliminates one daily batch cycle. Construction is otherwise identical: stainless pot, fan-cooled coil, BPA-free plastic collection vessel.
VEVOR 30L/day automatic unit -- for high-volume use
VEVOR also sells a desktop automatic water distiller rated for 30 liters per day output. This unit uses a higher-wattage element (approximately 1500W) and an automatic refill valve that connects to a tap supply line -- the unit fills itself, distills continuously, and delivers to a collection tank without manual batching. The 30L/day unit targets: small labs, dental offices, aquarium facilities, and households where five or more people rely on distilled water for drinking. At approximately $200 this is still below the cost of most commercial countertop distillers. The build quality is comparable to the consumer 4L/6L models -- not lab-grade, but adequate for the stated applications.
What VEVOR distillers remove
All VEVOR water distillers remove: dissolved solids (measured as TDS -- typically 95-99% TDS reduction from tap water), heavy metals (lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium), bacteria and viruses (thermal kill at 100C), nitrates, fluoride, and most inorganic contaminants. They do NOT remove VOCs that boil below 100C -- chloroform, benzene, and similar compounds distill over with the water vapor and must be captured by the included activated carbon post-filter. VEVOR units include one carbon sachet; replacement sachets are available in bulk at low cost.
