CO-Z Water Distiller Buying Guide

CO-Z distillers work. They produce genuine distilled water at the lowest price point in the category. This buying guide explains exactly who should buy one and who should spend more.

Who should buy a CO-Z water distiller

Buy a CO-Z distiller if you meet at least one of these criteria: (1) You want to evaluate home distillation before committing to a premium unit. (2) Your primary use case is non-drinking applications where collection material is irrelevant (humidifiers, steam irons, aquariums, car batteries, laboratory use). (3) Your budget is under $100 and no alternative is available. (4) You will immediately transfer distilled output to glass or stainless steel storage after each cycle, neutralizing the plastic pitcher concern.

Who should not buy a CO-Z water distiller

Do not buy a CO-Z if: you want distilled water stored in the collection container for hours before consumption (plastic contact concern); you want a product built for daily use over 5+ years (construction quality reflects the price); or you specifically want glass collection as part of your water purity practice. All of these buyers should look at the H2O Labs Model 200 ($110–$145 with glass collection), the Megahome MH943SBS ($170–$200), or the Waterwise 4000 ($200–$250) depending on budget and support preferences.

CO-Z specifications: what you are getting

CO-Z countertop distillers: 750W heating element, 4-liter stainless boiling chamber, 4–4.5 hour cycle per gallon, plastic collection pitcher (BPA-free polypropylene typically), activated carbon post-filter sachets included (typically 3–6), auto-shutoff, 120V standard outlet. Price: $80–$110 depending on timing and seller. Amazon Prime available. Standard Amazon return policy (30 days) applies.

Expectations management: build quality

The CO-Z is manufactured to a lower build specification than Megahome, Waterwise, or Pure Water Products. Specific differences you will notice: the condenser head seats less precisely on the boiling chamber, the fan is audibly less refined (slightly higher pitch), the plastic of the pitcher is noticeably lighter than glass collection units. None of these affect output water quality in normal operation, but they do affect the user experience and likely affect long-term reliability. The CO-Z is a 3–5 year appliance for a daily user, not a 10-year one.
