Filter installation and priming
Remove the ZeroWater replacement filter from packaging. Peel the protective film from both ends of the filter. Thread the filter into the bottom of the upper reservoir -- it should hand-tighten snugly with no wrench required. An improperly seated filter will leak unfiltered water around the thread, which will show as elevated TDS in the output. Check the thread seal before use: hold the assembled reservoir over a sink and pour 2 cups of tap water through -- if water drips from the thread junction (not the filter bottom), re-seat the filter.
Priming: pour 2 cups of cold tap water into the upper reservoir and allow to drain completely through the filter into the lower reservoir. Discard this first priming volume. The priming step washes any carbon fines and manufacturing residue from the filter media. After priming, the filter is ready for use.
TDS meter initial reading
Before filling the dispenser for drinking use, test the output water with the included TDS meter. Remove the meter cap, turn it on (press the power button), and dip the electrode tip 2 cm into the filtered water for 5-10 seconds. Read the PPM display. New ZeroWater filters should test 000-004 PPM in the first use. If the reading is 010 PPM or higher on a new filter, the filter seal is not complete -- check the thread connection. A reading of 006 PPM or higher on a used filter indicates depletion; replace the filter.
Dispenser placement and temperature
Store the ZeroWater dispenser in the refrigerator for best flavor and bacteria inhibition -- cold slows bacterial growth in the carbon media between the filter and the dispense tap. If counter storage is preferred, do not store in direct sunlight or near a heat source. In both cases, use filtered water within 24 hours of filtering. The ZeroWater tap dispenser spigot is BPA-free polypropylene -- do not apply plumber tape or sealant to the spigot threads as this is not designed as a threaded connection.
