Before first use: sanitize the reservoir
Before loading the first bottle, sanitize the internal reservoir with the Primo cleaning kit (or a dilute bleach solution: 1 tablespoon unscented bleach per gallon of water). Pour the sanitizing solution into the reservoir through the top loading port (lift the door, pour in), let it sit for 5 minutes, then drain through both taps. Rinse twice with clean water. This removes any manufacturing residue and establishes a clean starting point.
First bottle load (bottom-loading 601148)
- Open the bottom cabinet door.
- Set the water bottle upright inside the cabinet -- do not invert it.
- Insert the probe into the bottle cap opening -- press firmly until it clicks into the sealed position.
- Close the cabinet door.
- Power on the unit and wait 30-45 minutes for the cold tank to reach temperature before dispensing cold water. The hot tank reaches temperature in approximately 15 minutes.
Placement requirements
Primo coolers require 2-4 inches of clearance at the rear for the compressor fan exhaust. Placing the cooler flush against a wall will cause the compressor to overheat and may void the warranty. The cooler should be on a level floor -- significant tilt can cause the bottle probe to misalign. Keep away from direct sunlight, which forces the compressor to work harder and reduces energy efficiency.
