How to Choose a Brio Water Dispenser -- POU vs Bottle-Fed, UV Sterilization

Brio dispenser selection centers on POU vs bottle-fed and whether UV sterilization is a priority.

Updated Aug 2026 · Brio Water Dispensers

POU vs bottle-fed

Brio's POU models (CLPOU520 series) require a cold water supply connection -- typically 1/4" compression fitting on the cold line under a sink or in a utility space. If a supply connection is available near the desired dispenser location, POU is the right long-term choice: lower operating cost, no bottles, continuous supply. If no supply connection is convenient, the bottle-fed models (BBELOM series) are the correct path.

Is UV sterilization worth it?

UV-C sterilization is worth the price premium in these scenarios: shared office dispensers used by many people, households where the cooler cleaning schedule is irregular, environments with elevated ambient bacteria risk (basements, humid spaces), or households where immunocompromised members use the dispenser. For households that clean quarterly and use the dispenser in a normal home environment, UV is a comfort feature rather than a necessity.
