Gerber toilet seat replacement
All Gerber residential toilets — Avalanche, Maxwell, Viper, Wicker Park, Logan Square, Hinsdale Compact — ship WITHOUT a SoftClose seat included. Wicker Park one-piece — aesthetic seat consideration
The Wicker Park (Gerber's lone designer one-piece) benefits from a premium seat for aesthetic consistency. Basic Bemis 1500EC works functionally but visually mismatches the designer one-piece silhouette. Consider:

Viper and Hinsdale Compact — seat compatibility note
Both the Gerber Viper and Hinsdale Compact use 18" compact-elongated bowls (NOT standard 18.5" full elongated). Use Bemis 1200E compact-specific. Generic "elongated" seats from discount retailers are sized for 18.5" and will overhang the compact bowl edge.
Install procedure (10 minutes)
- Remove existing seat: lift hinge caps at rear, unscrew bolts (Phillips from above + wrench from below).
- Lift old seat off bowl.
- Position new Bemis: align hinge holes with Gerber bowl's mounting holes (5-1/2" bolt spread).
- Insert bolts from above, hand-tighten nut from below.
- Verify alignment: gentle wiggle test should show no lateral movement.
- Final tighten 1/4 turn beyond finger-tight. Do NOT overtighten — cracks porcelain.
- Close hinge caps.
- Test SoftClose: lift seat and release. Should slow smoothly.
When to replace
- SoftClose hinge no longer slows lid descent (3-5 years)
- Seat surface cracked, chipped, or yellowed
- Hinge bolts rusted (humid bathrooms, 4-7 years)
- Bumpers worn through (seat-to-bowl contact noise)
- Seat loose at mounting (try tightening first)
