Gerber toilet installation overview
Gerber uses standard US 12-inch rough-in + universal aftermarket parts compatibility. Install procedures match Mansfield/AmStd/Sterling/Vortens for the two-piece models. Wicker Park one-piece requires two-person install + flat floor + flange at or below floor level.
Tools required
- Adjustable wrench (8-10 inch)
- Channel-lock pliers
- Screwdriver (Phillips + flathead)
- 4-foot level
- Bucket + sponge
- Hacksaw (for corroded tank-bowl bolts on replacements)
Materials required
- Wax ring (Korky 6000 or Fluidmaster 7530, $5-$10) — NOT included with Gerber
- Floor flange bolts (typically reusable; new brass set $3-$5)
- 12" braided supply line ($5-$10) — replace at install
- Seat: Bemis 1500EC elongated ($30-$35), 1500RD round-front ($28-$32), or 1200E compact ($28) for Viper/Hinsdale
- Setting compound ($6) for Wicker Park on out-of-level floor

Standard Gerber two-piece install (Avalanche, Maxwell, Viper, Logan Square, Hinsdale)
- Shut off water at under-toilet shutoff valve.
- Flush old toilet to empty.
- Disconnect supply line from bottom of tank.
- Remove tank-bowl bolts (Phillips from inside, wrench below).
- Lift old tank off bowl.
- Remove flange bolt caps + nuts at bowl base.
- Lift bowl off flange. Scrape old wax ring.
- Inspect flange — replace if cracked.
- Install new wax ring on flange (horn-side down).
- Set new Gerber bowl on flange. Press straight down. Verify plumb.
- Hand-tighten flange bolts only.
- Install tank-bowl gasket on flush valve outlet.
- Set tank on bowl, align bolt holes.
- Cross-tighten tank-bowl bolts 1/4 turn alternately until snug.
- Connect supply line. Hand-tighten + 1/4 turn.
- Turn shutoff valve on. Tank fills.
- Test 3-5 flushes (verify ViPER vortex action).
- Install seat (sold separately).
Wicker Park (one-piece) install — additional considerations
- Two-person lift required: Wicker Park is ~95 lbs single unit. NEVER twist during placement.
- Floor MUST be flat: Apply Korky setting compound around perimeter if not flat. Out-of-level floor cracks the unsupported edge.
- Floor flange MUST be at or below floor level: Skirted-trapway base will not seat over protruding flange. Solutions: grind flange OR use recessed flange.
- Wax ring with horn recommended: For one-piece bowl outlet geometry.
- Concealed mounting hardware: Provided in Wicker Park box.
Logan Square dual-flush install — additional steps
Same as standard two-piece, plus:
- Verify tank-top clearance for top-mount dual-flush button.
- Cartridge orientation matters — follow Gerber install manual alignment marks.
- Keep WaterSense Most Efficient certificate for utility rebate paperwork.
Common Gerber install mistakes
- Wax ring not purchased: Gerber ships without wax ring. Korky 6000 ($5-$10).
- Tank-bowl bolts overtightened: Cracks porcelain. Snug + 1/4 turn limit.
- Floor flange bolts overtightened: Cracks bowl porcelain at base.
- Wicker Park on out-of-level floor: Cracks at unsupported edge over months/years.
- Wicker Park flange not below floor level: Skirted base won't seat.
- Old supply line reused: Replace at install.
- Viper or Hinsdale generic elongated seat: 18" compact bowl needs Bemis 1200E.
Non-standard rough-in considerations
Gerber primarily makes 12-inch rough-in toilets. For 10-inch or 14-inch rough-ins, look at Kohler Highline 10-inch ($230-$340), AmStd Cadet 3 10-inch or 14-inch ($240-$330), or offset toilet flange adapter ($25-$45) for off-center existing flanges.
