Standard installation (all TOTO showerheads)
Remove the existing showerhead from the shower arm. Clean the arm threads with a dry cloth. Apply 3 wraps of Teflon tape clockwise around the arm threads. Thread the TOTO showerhead clockwise by hand until snug -- the internal rubber washer in the TOTO showerhead inlet will compress against the arm face and begin sealing. Add one quarter-turn with an adjustable wrench (use a cloth or tape to protect the polished chrome finish). Turn on the water and check for drips at the connection. If present, add one more quarter-turn.
Spray mode selection -- TBW02001U4
After installation, test all five spray modes by rotating the collar ring on the showerhead face. Rotate clockwise from the wide-coverage position through the comfort, strong, and eco positions. Each position should produce noticeably different spray patterns. If any mode produces no or very low flow, mineral debris may be blocking the mode-specific channels -- remove the showerhead and flush the inlet for 30 seconds before reinstalling, then test modes again.
Flow restrictor -- for standard vs restricted-state models
TOTO showerheads for the US market ship with a flow restrictor pre-installed at 2.0 GPM (WaterSense) or 1.75 GPM (California) depending on the model variant. If your model has a flow restrictor and your state does not require restriction below 2.5 GPM, the restrictor can be removed: unscrew the showerhead from the arm, use needle-nose pliers to extract the plastic restrictor disk from the inlet, and reinstall. The model label will identify the rated flow rate.
Arm extension notes for rain-style heads
TOTO's 8-inch and larger round showerheads require a shower arm that positions the head at least 6 inches from the wall and at a height of at least 78 inches above the finished floor for comfortable clearance. Standard residential shower arms (typically 6-12 inches long, with a 15-degree downward angle) may need replacement with an S-shaped extension arm to achieve the correct head height and clearance. Measure your existing arm length before purchasing a rain-head model.
