Pre-installation check -- arm size and pressure
Verify your shower arm is a standard 1/2-inch NPT (the near-universal US residential standard). Kohler showerheads thread directly onto this arm. Minimum recommended supply pressure is 20 PSI; optimal is 40-80 PSI. Below 20 PSI, spray pattern quality degrades regardless of showerhead brand. If your shower pressure is low, the issue is upstream (pressure regulator, partially closed shut-off, or undersized supply line) -- a new showerhead will not solve it.
Fixed showerhead installation (Statement, Moxie, Forte)
Remove the old showerhead counterclockwise. Clean the arm threads. Apply 3 wraps of Teflon tape clockwise around the arm threads. Thread the Kohler showerhead clockwise until snug by hand. Use an adjustable wrench with a cloth protector for one additional quarter-turn. Turn on the water; check for drips. For the Moxie: the speaker module is pre-installed -- pair it via Bluetooth before completing installation so you can access the pairing button on the speaker face without fully removing the unit.
Moxie speaker pairing
The Moxie speaker pairs via Bluetooth before the first use. Remove the speaker from the showerhead (it pulls straight out magnetically). Hold the power button on the speaker for 3 seconds until the LED flashes. Select "Moxie Speaker" from your device's Bluetooth menu. The speaker pairs within 10 seconds and remembers the device for future sessions. Battery charges via the included micro-USB cable in approximately 3 hours. Re-seat the speaker in the showerhead before showering.
Slide bar installation for Exhale and HydroRail
Kohler HydroRail and Exhale slide bars mount to the wall with two brackets. Use a level to mark bracket hole positions. Drill 3/16" holes in tile using a diamond-tipped bit (included in some kits; otherwise use a $10-$15 tile bit). Insert the provided anchors, screw in the bracket plates, and slide the bar into the brackets. Secure the bar set screws. Connect the supply hose from the wall outlet (typically a hand shower connection on the valve trim) to the slide bar inlet. Kohler slide bars use standard 1/2-inch connections throughout.
