Whirlpool WHAFS5: 200-Gallon Lead-Reduction Filter

The Whirlpool WHAFS5 doubles the filter life of most faucet-mount competitors at 200 gallons -- and maintains NSF 42 and 53 dual certification throughout that lifespan. The 200-gallon rating results from a higher-density carbon block media than the 100-gallon units: more activated carbon per unit volume means the media is not exhausted as quickly at the same flow rate and contaminant loading. The replacement cartridge (WHEEFD) costs approximately $20.

Lead and Chlorine Reduction

The WHAFS5 reduces chlorine taste and odor (NSF 42), lead (NSF 53), cysts, sediment, and bad taste. For homes with older copper supply lines soldered with lead-tin solder (pre-1986 construction), the NSF 53 lead-reduction certification provides meaningful health protection at a fraction of the cost of an under-sink system.
