Whirlpool Salt Capacity and Refill Schedule

The WHES40E brine tank holds approximately 150 lbs of pellet salt. At a typical household consumption of 6–10 lbs of salt per regeneration cycle and 1–2 regeneration cycles per week, a full brine tank lasts 8–12 weeks before refilling. Whirlpool recommends checking salt level monthly and refilling when the tank drops below 1/3 full. Do not allow the brine tank to run completely dry — an empty brine tank causes the softener to regenerate with fresh water instead of concentrated brine, leaving the resin bed with reduced capacity until a brine-present regeneration cycle can recharge it.
