AO Smith JS075 3/4 HP Shallow Well Jet Pump
AO Smith JS075 3/4 HP Shallow Well Jet Pump Review
AO Smith JS075 -- shallow well water supply for homes under 25 feet
The AO Smith JS075 is a shallow well jet pump for residential wells where the static water level is within 25 feet of the pump. Unlike submersible pumps that sit inside the well casing, the JS075 mounts above ground -- in a pump house, utility room, or garage -- and draws water up using a jet injector that creates the suction pressure required to lift water from the well to the pump head. The 3/4 HP motor delivers 8 GPM at 40 PSI -- adequate for a 2- to 4-bathroom home with standard fixture simultaneous demand. Cast iron body and stainless steel impeller resist the corrosion that is the primary failure mode for pumps handling well water with elevated iron or mineral content.
Dual voltage flexibility
The JS075 is factory-configured for 115V operation but is field-switchable to 230V by rewiring the motor windings per the diagram inside the motor end cap. This voltage flexibility is important for installations where the pump is distant from the main electrical panel -- 230V allows smaller wire gauge over long runs, reducing installation cost. The motor is thermally protected against overload; the pressure switch (included, factory-set to 30/50 PSI) automatically cycles the pump on and off to maintain system pressure in conjunction with a separate pressure tank.
Pressure tank requirement
The JS075 requires a separate pressure tank (not included) to function correctly. The pressure tank acts as a reservoir and buffer between pump cycles -- without it, the pump would cycle on and off rapidly with every faucet demand, wearing out the motor in weeks. Appropriate tank sizing for a 3/4 HP jet pump: 20- to 44-gallon bladder tank set to a pre-charge of 28 PSI for a 30/50 PSI pressure switch setting.
