Whirlpool 30-Gallon Atmospheric Natural Gas Water Heater
Whirlpool 30-Gallon Atmospheric Natural Gas Water Heater Review
The Whirlpool 30-Gallon Atmospheric Natural Gas is Whirlpool's smaller-capacity atmospheric gas tank. Built by A.O. Smith with Whirlpool branding for Lowe's channel.
Specs: 38,000 BTU input, UEF 0.58, 60-gallon FHR, 6-year tank and parts warranty. Atmospheric vent through B-vent. Electronic ignition. Magnesium anode rod.
The 30-gallon gas capacity is the smallest residential gas tank size considered a primary water heater. Right answer for single-person households with gas service, very small apartments, in-law suites with separate water heater, vacation cabins with light use.
About $399 at Lowe's, $1,050 installed. For 2+ person primary residences, the upgrade to 40-gallon or 50-gallon Whirlpool gas tanks is usually the better choice.
- Natural gas combustion — faster recovery than electric resistance at comparable tank size
- Below-average UEF 0.6 — modern standard models reach 0.65+, condensing 0.95+
- 6-year warranty — below the 8–12 year average for premium models in this class
- Atmospheric venting requires vertical B-vent — less routing flexibility than power-vent or condensing alternatives
- Small 30-gallon reserve — supplemental or 1–2 person use only
