Suburban Water Heater Maintenance — Annual Checklist

Suburban\'s maintenance schedule is similar to residential glass-lined tanks, with RV-specific additions.

Annually (or before each season)

• Inspect anode rod — pull through anode port; replace if >50% consumed
• Flush tank — use a tank wand or flush kit through the anode port
• Clean spider screen on the burner intake — RV-specific; wasps and spiders nest here causing E04-equivalent ignition failures
• Verify bypass valves set to "operate" position after winter
• T&P valve test — lift lever briefly
• Check pilot/burner flame — steady blue flame

Before each trip

• Visual inspection of LP line connections
• Verify electrical at 120V and 12V
• Brief operation test on each fuel

Before winter storage

• Drain tank fully via drain plug + anode port
• Activate bypass valves to "winterize" position
• Pump RV antifreeze through plumbing
• Optional: leave tank empty (preferred for long storage)
