Navien NPN-180U Non-Condensing Tankless Water Heater
Navien NPN-180U Non-Condensing Tankless Water Heater Review
The Navien NPN-180U is a non-condensing 180K BTU tankless water heater. "NPN" identifies the non-condensing Navien line; "U" indicates universal (works on both natural gas and propane with simple field conversion). Smaller variant of the NPN-240U.
Specs: 180,000 BTU natural gas or propane input, UEF 0.82 (non-condensing), 8.4 GPM at a 35°F rise. Stainless steel B-vent Category III venting. Copper heat exchanger. 12-year warranty on heat exchanger.
Non-condensing positioning is for retrofits reusing existing chimney access (saves $700-$1,200 vs PVC condensing venting work) and for installs where the universal NG/LP fuel flexibility matters.
About $1,400 unit, $2,800 installed. Right buyer: retrofit replacing aging atmospheric gas tank where the existing B-vent chimney can serve the new tankless, particularly when fuel-source flexibility matters (rural homes that might switch from propane to natural gas eventually).
