GE water heater parts vary by manufacture era and product line. Modern GE/GeoSpring units (post-2016) use Rheem-manufactured internals with GE-branded external components. Legacy GE tanks pre-2016 used Bradford White or AO Smith internals depending on the manufacturing partner at the time.
Standard GE tank parts
Heating elements (electric)
Modern GE residential electric uses 1" NPT screw-in elements, typically 4500 W 240V. Replacement: any standard 4500 W/240V Incoloy element fits — Camco 02922, Reliance 100109109, or OEM GE part. $15–25 aftermarket; $40–55 OEM.
Thermostats
Dual-stage upper/lower thermostat setup. Upper has the reset/high-limit; lower is single-stage. Compatible aftermarket: Therm-O-Disc 59T or Honeywell L4080 — $25–40 each.
Gas valve (gas tank models)
Post-2016 GE gas units use a Honeywell or Robertshaw gas valve with integral ignition control. Failed gas valves are diagnosed by no-pilot or no-main-burner with healthy thermopile. Replacement: $180–280 OEM, requires gas-fitter expertise.
Anode rod
GE/Bradford White anodes are 3/4" NPT, 42–46" long. Universal flexible anodes for tight ceilings ($45–65) or standard rigid magnesium ($25–35). Aluminum-zinc alloy variant for sulfur-water areas ($30–45).
GeoSpring hybrid-specific parts
Heat pump module
The complete heat-pump assembly on top of the GeoSpring tank includes compressor, evaporator, condenser, expansion valve, and refrigerant charge. Field-replaceable as a unit ($600–900 part, $300–500 labor), but typically the whole tank is replaced under warranty if the heat pump fails within 10 years.
Anti-vibration mounts
The compressor sits on rubber isolators that age out at year 6–8. Replacement reduces vibration noise. $25–45 set.
Condensate drain components
Plastic drain pan, condensate pump (if equipped), and 1/2" PVC drain line are wear items. Replace when blocked or cracked. $20–50 total.
Air filter
Removable foam or pleated filter at the heat-pump intake. $8–15. Clean monthly, replace annually.
Display and control board
GeoSpring control boards fail at 6–10 years on average. Replacement requires matching the control-board revision to the unit serial. GE Appliances parts is the only source — $180–320 OEM.
Universal wear items
- T&P relief valve: 3/4" NPT, 150 psi / 210°F — any ASME-rated valve works ($15–30)
- Dip tube: universal residential dip tubes fit ($8–15)
- Drain valve: standard 3/4" NPT brass boiler drain ($12–25)
- Expansion tank: 5-gallon for 40–50 gallon water heater ($35–60)
Finding correct part numbers
The data plate on every GE water heater includes model number, serial number, manufacture date, and OEM part numbers for critical components. Cross-reference the model number on GE Appliances parts website (geappliances.com/parts) or call 800-432-2737 with the model number for an exact part-number match.
