Furrion FWH09BL 2.4 GPM Tankless RV Water Heater
Furrion FWH09BL 2.4 GPM Tankless RV Water Heater Review
The Furrion FWH09BL is a 2.4 GPM tankless RV water heater designed for travel trailers and motorhomes, sized to feed a typical RV bath (single shower plus galley sink) without the storage-tank weight and footprint that traditional 6-gallon RV water heaters require. The "09" identifies its propane-only fuel source, the "BL" the black exterior trim (white trim variants are also available).
Specs: 60,000 BTU propane burner, 2.4 GPM peak at a 35°F rise, 12V DC ignition control, single 1.5" combustion vent through a sealed exterior wall mount. Operates exclusively on LP — no shore-power electric mode (which differentiates it from the Suburban and Atwood dual-energy storage tanks). About 19" wide × 14" tall × 4" deep — much smaller than the 22" wide × 22" tall × 16" deep footprint of a 6-gallon storage tank.
The tankless advantages in an RV context are real: substantial weight savings (15 lbs vs 50 lbs for a 6-gallon tank), more storage space in the previously-occupied tank compartment, no risk of frozen water in winter storage (no reservoir to freeze), and continuous hot water as long as propane lasts. The disadvantage: requires consistent propane pressure and clean fuel — RV propane systems with marginal regulators or older tanks may produce intermittent ignition issues.
Right buyer: RV owners doing a tank-to-tankless conversion or new-build installs where the tankless format is specified by the manufacturer. The conversion from an existing 6-gallon storage tank requires trim plates ($60–$100) to cover the original cutout and minor plumbing reroutes. Cost typically $600 for the unit, plus $200–$400 in install if a tech is doing the conversion.
2-year warranty. Service through Furrion-authorized RV dealers and Camping World. Common service items are the ignition module (replaceable in 20 minutes) and the gas valve.
