Eccotemp L10 Outdoor Portable Tankless Propane Water Heater
Eccotemp L10 Outdoor Portable Tankless Propane Water Heater Review
The Eccotemp L10 is a 2.6 GPM outdoor propane tankless water heater, designed for off-grid and portable applications where running 120V power to the install location isn't practical. The unit uses two D-cell batteries to fire the ignition and run the controls — no shore power, no generator, just propane and batteries. That makes it the dominant choice for outdoor showers at hunting cabins, pool houses without electrical, RV exterior wash stations, and remote campsite setups.
Specs: 75,000 BTU propane burner (compatible with both small camping propane tanks via adapter and standard 20-lb BBQ tanks), 2.6 GPM peak at a 45°F rise, temperature control via a dial on the unit face, low-flow shutoff at 0.4 GPM to prevent flame-only operation. Indoor use is explicitly not approved — the unit vents combustion gases directly out the front, and CO buildup in enclosed spaces is fatal. For indoor applications use the Eccotemp i12 or similar indoor-rated tankless.
Real-world performance: at 2.6 GPM with a 45°F rise (typical incoming groundwater on shore power campgrounds), the L10 delivers a comfortable shower stream. In cold-source water (40°F well water in winter), throughput drops to about 2.0 GPM at a 60°F rise — still adequate for one shower but reduced. The integrated rain cap and water inlet protect against light precipitation; the unit should not be left in below-freezing exposure without winterization (drain it and disconnect the supply line when temperatures drop).
1-year warranty, parts available through Eccotemp directly and through major outdoor retailers (Cabela's, Bass Pro, Amazon). Lifespan typically 5–10 years with regular use, shorter if left outdoors year-round in harsh climates. About $370 unit, often bundled with a shower head and stand for $440–$500.
