Camco 6-Gallon RV Mini-Tank Electric Water Heater
Camco 6-Gallon RV Mini-Tank Electric Water Heater Review
The Camco 6-Gallon RV Mini-Tank Electric is a 6-gallon mini-tank water heater designed for RV use. Differs from Camco's larger 11673 (4-gallon) by capacity — same fundamental design at slightly larger size. Uses 120V AC shore power exclusively (no propane mode).
Specs: 6 gallons stored, 1500W heating element on 120V, recovery rate ~6 gallons per hour, ENERGY STAR certified, glass-lined steel tank. Replaces or supplements existing RV storage water heaters.
The use case is specific. Most RVs have a main 6-gallon storage tank serving the primary bath. The Camco 6-gallon adds capacity at a galley sink or secondary fixture, OR replaces a failing primary 6-gallon storage tank in RVs with adequate 120V shore power capacity.
Trade-off versus dual-energy units like Suburban SW6DE: simpler install (no propane line), lower upfront cost ($230 vs $400 for SW6DE), but requires 120V shore power for operation. At campsites without electrical hookup, the unit is dead. For full-timers and shore-power-dependent RVers, the Camco is workable; for boondockers, the dual-energy alternative is better.
About $230 unit, $250-$400 installed. Reasonable DIY for RV owners with basic plumbing experience. Parts widely available through Camping World and RV-specific suppliers.
