AO Smith ProMax 75-Gallon Electric Water Heater
AO Smith ProMax 75-Gallon Electric Water Heater Review
The AO Smith ProMax 75-Gallon Electric is the largest capacity in AO Smith's mainstream ProMax electric tank line. Sized for 5+ person households or applications with overlapping morning demand requiring more reservoir than the 80-gallon ProMax provides.
Specs: 75 gallons stored, two 4500W heating elements (240V), UEF 0.93, 84-gallon first-hour rating, 6-year tank and parts warranty. Glass-lined steel tank, magnesium anode rod, polyurethane foam insulation. About 60" tall × 28" diameter.
The 75-gallon electric capacity covers heavy household demand without converting to gas or upgrading to heat-pump. Right answer for households of 5+ where 50-gallon insufficient and gas conversion isn't practical (apartments, condos, electric-only homes).
For households this size with the basement install location, the Rheem ProTerra 80-gallon heat-pump (similar capacity, dramatically lower operating cost) is usually the better economic choice. The 75-gallon ProMax wins when heat-pump install location requirements aren't met.
About $899 unit, $1,500 installed. Right buyer: 5+ person household with electric utility, install location not supporting heat-pump, or 6-year ownership horizon with budget priority.
