GE Water Filtration: Under-Sink RO and Refrigerator Filters

GE (now GE Appliances, owned by Haier since 2016, Louisville, Kentucky) sells water filtration products in two major categories: under-sink RO systems and refrigerator water filters. The GE GXRTDR Reverse Osmosis System (5-stage, 50 GPD, $250--$350) and GE GXSV65R SmartWater Filter System (100 GPD, tankless, $300--$400) are the primary GE under-sink filter products. GE also dominates the refrigerator water filter replacement market through its RPWFE, MWF, and XWFE refrigerator filter cartridges.

GE GXRTDR Under-Sink RO

The GE GXRTDR is a 5-stage, 50 GPD RO system with a 3.2-gallon storage tank and dedicated faucet. NSF certified to standards 42, 53, and 58. The GXRTDR is functionally comparable to the APEC ROES-50 with similar filter stages, similar GPD output, and similar NSF certifications. GE's advantage: availability at Home Depot (in-store, easy returns) and GE Appliances customer support through the same channel as GE water heater and appliance support. Annual filter cost: $50--$80 through Home Depot or Amazon.

GE Refrigerator Water Filters: RPWFE, MWF, XWFE

GE refrigerator water filters are the most commonly replaced refrigerator water filters in the US -- GE refrigerators account for approximately 25% of the US refrigerator market, and each GE refrigerator with an ice maker and water dispenser requires a replacement filter every 6 months. The RPWFE ($50--$60) fits most GE Profile and GE Cafe refrigerators; the MWF ($30--$45) fits most GE and GE Profile side-by-side models; the XWFE ($50--$60) is the newer standard for 2021+ GE refrigerators. Third-party compatible filters ($15--$25) are widely available but are not NSF-certified to the same scope as GE OEM filters.
