AO Smith Water Filtration: Premium RO and Whole-Home Filter Systems

AO Smith (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) entered the residential water filtration market by acquiring Aquasana in 2016 and developing the AO Smith branded filter line sold through Lowe's. AO Smith water filters include the AO Smith AO-US-200 under-sink filter (3-stage, $80--$120), the AO-WH-FILTER whole-home carbon filter ($150--$250), and the Aquasana product line (marketed separately). AO Smith's Lowe's exclusive distribution makes it one of the few premium filter brands available in-store at both Lowe's locations nationwide.

AO Smith Under-Sink RO (AO-WH-F-RO)

The AO Smith AO-WH-F-RO ($250--$350) is a 5-stage RO system with 50 GPD production, NSF 58 certified, available through Lowe's. It is effectively a private-label version of comparable systems from the Aquasana or APEC manufacturing pipeline, carrying AO Smith brand warranty and Lowe's service support. The AO Smith RO's primary advantage over comparable online-only brands: in-store availability at Lowe's for same-day purchase and easy in-store returns.

AO Smith Whole-Home Carbon Filter

The AO Smith AO-WH-FILTER ($150--$250) is a compact whole-home filter using a large-format carbon block cartridge. It addresses chlorine, chloramines, and sediment for the whole home at a lower price point than tank-style systems (Pelican PC600, SpringWell CF4). The trade-off: cartridge replacement every 3--6 months ($30--$50 per cartridge) vs. tank systems that require no replacement for 5--10 years. For households who want whole-home filtration with lower upfront cost and are comfortable with regular cartridge replacement, the AO Smith offers good value.
